Idaho BDR Section 2 (IDBDR) – Full day POV helmet cam video
Idaho BDR Section 2 (IDBDR) delivered exactly what makes adventure motorcycle travel so memorable: incredible scenery, unexpected challenges, and a few stories that only seem to happen when you are hundreds of miles from home.
The day started in Glenns Ferry and would eventually end in Lowman, but not before a series of events that turned an ordinary ride into one of the most memorable days of the entire Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route. Somewhere along the way I found myself eating mystery meat at a small trail-side restaurant, learning more than I wanted about Idaho insects, taking an unplanned tumble with my motorcycle, and discovering that my campsite reservation was not going to work out as planned.
As often happens on the BDR, the problems became part of the adventure.
Fortunately, the riding more than made up for the challenges. Section 2 showcases some of the best scenery on the Idaho BDR, with remote backroads, mountain views, and winding forest roads along a river and reservoir. This section offers a great mix of terrain and serves as a transition from the lower elevations of southern Idaho into the mountains that define much of the route.
One of the lessons learned from this ride is that flexibility is often more important than planning. Reservations can fall through, routes can change, and sometimes the best campsite is the one you create yourself when Plan A disappears. With my first full day, I’ve already got great stories to tell.
The video below captures the entire day, including the riding, scenery, crash, beetle encounter, and the search for a place to spend the night.
If you’re planning to ride the Idaho BDR, researching route conditions, or simply enjoy adventure motorcycle travel, this section is well worth adding to your list. Just be prepared for a few surprises along the way.
