Washington BDR | Adventure Riding Through Washington’s Backcountry
The Washington Backcountry Discovery Route (BDR) takes you through mountain passes, forest roads, desert terrain, remote towns, and incredible scenery from the Oregon border to Canada. The WABDR combines technical sections, scenic overlooks, historic areas, and long stretches of backcountry riding that make it a favorite for dual-sport and ADV riders looking for a true multi-day motorcycle adventure. The route constantly changes and rewards riders with some of the best backcountry riding in the country.
One of the best parts of the Washington BDR is the variety of terrain and small-town stops along the way. Riders pass through places like Packwood, Ellensburg, Chelan, Conconully, and Loomis while experiencing remote camping, mountain weather, wildlife, and unforgettable riding conditions. Before starting the WABDR, always check current route conditions, wildfire closures, snow levels, and fuel availability through official BDR resources and rider groups, since conditions can change quickly throughout the riding season. Proper planning, extra fuel range, and flexible scheduling can make the difference between a stressful trip and an outstanding adventure.

I love this Bethel Ridge Stretch on the Washington BDR – the views are amazing!
I live in Washington State, so I’ve jumped on WABDR for sections at a time. It’s an incredible trip with fun terrain and amazing views. Find out about my experience on the Washington BDR, what to hit, what to miss and the equipment that worked best for me. But really my favorite part was the people I met along the way.
