Sprinter Maintenance Files – Sluggish Sprinter Van and Rough Shifting Fix
If your Sprinter 2500 4×4 with the V6 engine feels like it’s starting to lose power or isn’t shifting as smoothly as it used to, there’s a good chance your EGR valve needs to be cleaned. Here’s my Sluggish Sprinter Van and Rough Shifting Fix.
I’ve been driving my 4×4 Sprinter Van since 2016 and absolutely love it. I use it as a daily driver, and have taken it on long trips, both on and off-road. Over the years I’ve learned a few things that Sprinter owners need to keep an eye on, and the EGR valve tops that list.
One of the maintenance points to watch for on the Sprinter Van is carbon build up inside the EGR valve which slows down how quickly the valve can open and close. That will make your van feel sluggish and cause rough shifting. If you are feeling like your van has lost some power and is not quite shifting the way it used to, then clean the EGR valve, it is an easy first step, and once you’ve done it, the next time will only takes about 15 to 20 minutes. I like to clean mine with each oil change just to keep things running smooth and prevent power loss.
